SALMON ARE BACK ON THE MENU FOR 2025!!
For the first time since 2022, California Department of Fish and Wildlife opened back up fishing for our prized gem the California King Salmon (Chinook). Although the proposed dates were only about a month in total, nevertheless we were excited to be able to put salmon trips up on the calander. The season was broken up into two different “catch-quotas” , 7000 fish for June - August and 7500 fish for September-October.
The “Summer” Opener was ACTION PACKED, with us returning both June 7th and 8th by 1:30pm with full boat limits of salmon. Although we had another 3 weeks of season “proposed” by the state, they shut down July and August dates as the 7000 fish quota was met in just two days (over 9500 fish in total)!!
Septembers fishing was excellent as well. The first two days were LIGHTS OUT again, with us returning back to the dock early and again with full limits of salmon. The last two days were a bit tougher, with 1.5 fish an anglers on 9/6 and about a fish a rod on 9/7. There was an IMMENSE amount of pressure of the fishery for the four days, so it was expected to slow down at some point.
It was great to see all our familiar faces back on board, and we can’t wait to do it again!! We do have some time til we hear that status of the rest of the fall season. We will be running AM Live Bait Potluck trips daily until Dungeness Crab Season, which will open on November 1st!
